Different options for heating your home

Different options for heating your home

In the fall and winter, you usually can't do without heating in your home. Everyone likes to be cozy, right? What different options are there for heating your home? We put them in a row for you!

1. Fuel oil (mazout)

Fuel oil is a common way of heating. Heating oil is stored in a tank that is installed in your home. You are therefore not dependent on third parties (only to have your tank filled). The tank must also be checked once a year by an expert. Please note that you must also check whether or not your tank needs to be refilled. The disadvantage is that fuel oil is not a renewable form of energy.

2. Natural gas or propane

Heating with natural gas or propane gas has several advantages: you do not need a storage place, it is environmentally friendly, requires little maintenance, is not too expensive (you also only pay for the gas that you actually use). We also list the various disadvantages: it is not renewable, it is flammable, the availability is limited and the quality labels must also be carefully controlled. Interesting fact: it is the most common form of heating in Belgium.

3. Electric

Electric heating is slightly more expensive than e.g. natural gas/propane gas or fuel oil because it requires more power, but it is ideal for anyone who has a variable or low energy consumption. It is a very fast way of heating and it is safe. You can possibly combine it with another way of heating.

4. Pellet Fire

Wood pellets are not yet known in our country, so it is a fairly new way of heating. It is actually a solid fuel that is made from compressed wood waste. The disadvantage is that it requires a lot of storage space, a lot of maintenance and is also quite a large investment, but in the long run it is cheap and environmentally friendly.

5. Wood stove

When you use a wood-burning stove, you can save a lot on heating costs and it is also very cosy. It has a higher efficiency than an open fire and is cheaper than a gas fire. The disadvantage is that you need a lot of storage space and it requires a lot of maintenance. You have to clean the chimney and the window in time and remove the ashes.

6. Sustainable alternatives

Nowadays there are also a number of alternative sustainable heating methods that are more environmentally friendly. For example, you can have solar panels installed or a heat pump or solar water heater. In addition, a smart thermostat is also a useful system. This allows you to control your heating from a distance, among other things.
